Are you ready?
- The seafront in Palma de Mallorca by bicycle
As could not be otherwise, we begin our 5 cycling trails in Majorca for the whole family with a tour of its capital: Palma de Mallorca and, specifically, of its promenade, a lively 13 km artery next to the Mediterranean with an exclusive cycling lane.
The itinerary starts at Parc del Mar, located between the wall and the Levante highway, and continues towards the Coll d’en Rabassa neighborhood, a space that has been declared a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI). During the way, you and your children will pass by the Royal Yacht Club of Palma, located on the pier of Sant Pere, 1, and some interesting monuments. Among them, the Royal Palace of Almudaina, one of the residences of the Spanish royal family; the cathedral of Palma, a striking building with a facade exhibits the largest Gothic rosette in the world; the Episcopal Palace, headquarters of the Diocesan Archive and holder of a spectacular facade, and the neighborhood of Calatrava, which is part of the old town of Palma, all stand out.
The route is flat and perfectly marked, so neither you nor the kids will find any difficulty when completing it.
- Rural Mallorca: cycling route from Binissalem to Biniagual
Beyond the cycling lane in Palma, Majorca offers other cycling trails you can do with children. For example, a pleasant journey along a paved road between Binissalem and Biniagual. To get to the starting point – the town of Binissalem, located in the center of the island -, you can opt for a rental car in Majorca, or take a train from Palma, which covers the journey in half an hour.
The itinerary begins at the Binissalem train station. From there, you must cross the town in a southern direction until you reach the general road and cross where the traffic light is. To get to this place, you have to turn left and then right, where there is a sign that indicates how to go to Palma. From there, you have to descend straight on Camí de s’Aigo. If you prefer to make this journey on foot, the duration will be about 10 minutes.
Once you have crossed the road, you will find two detours and a wooden sign that reads A SENCELLES PER BINIAGUAL, which you must follow. Next, you have to cross under the highway. This small effort – it will be the greatest difficulty of the itinerary, although it is perfectly acceptable even for children – has a reward, since the beautiful rural landscapes with farm animals and farm fields in the area will spread before your eyes. After 45 minutes, or an hour at most, you will reach Biniagual, a rebuilt village with gardens worth visiting.
To return to Binissalem, just go back the way you came, which covers a distance of 4 km one way and another 4 km on the way back.
- Ascent to Puig de la Randa, in Llucmajor
The municipality of Llucmajor is the spiritual center of Majorca. Why not discover it with your loved ones? To do this, we suggest a family cycling trail in Majorca. The itinerary goes up the Puig de Randa to the sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace, crossing forests and giving you unique views over the Pla de Llevant, the Llucmajor coast, the bay of Palma, the Felanitx mountains, with the sanctuary of Sant Salvador and Santueri Castle … On clear days you can even contemplate the island of Cabrera.
The trail starts in front of the Llucmajor High School (IES) and continues along Camí de Gràcia for about 20 minutes. Then, turn left to continue along Camí Vell de Gràcia, which leads to Puig de Randa. After a slight descent, we will cycle along the Camí des Putxets, on the left. Almost immediately, an informative sign for walkers marks the beginning of the ascent to the monastery, by the Camí de Ses Voltes. As we cycle up, the view gets increasingly spectacular.
You will then cycle past a grotto with a Virgin and, a few minutes later, you will reach the sanctuary of Gràcia, located 350 meters above sea level. Once there, you can take advantage and have a picnic or simply admire its amazing views. Nature in its purest form.
Return along the same path, going down the mountain towards Camí de Gràcia, and turning right to go back to the entrance of the high school. The trip, one of the most advisable cycling trails for those who want to visit Majorca with children, has an estimated duration of about 2.5 hours.
- Greenway from Artà to Manacor
Within our cycling trails in Majorca for the whole family, we could not miss one that is a classic: the Greenway from Artà to Manacor. This route follows the trail of an old railway line that was in operation between 1921 and 1977. Fortunately, this route has been adapted so that cyclists and hikers can use it, while enjoying the views filled with fields and attractive Mediterranean forests.
Its length is 29 km. Therefore, if you are going to travel to Majorca with children, it is preferable that you choose a single section. The lane is 4 m wide, has plenty of recreational areas and runs amongst 4,800 trees – such as holm oaks, tamarind pines, mulberry trees, olive trees and banana trees – and some 15,000 bushes. If you want to know more about them, you and your family can stop by the information panels that you will find on the road.
- Cycling trails across the Natural Park of s’Albufera de Mallorca
We finish with our proposals by taking you to the largest wetland of the Balearic Islands: The Natural Park of s’Albufera de Mallorca, an old lagoon separated by a cordon of dunes. This place not only stands out for its scenic and monumental value, but also for its hiking trails in Majorca and for cyclists.
In the visitor center, located next to the entrance, you will be given a map with 4 cycling trails for children and adults. In the case of the longest option, they can be done only partially. Whichever part you choose, you will have the opportunity of approaching the biodiversity of this protected area of 1,708 hectares, with a generous fauna and flora. Above all, the large number of migratory and native birds in the park is striking. This place also has a wooden viewpoint from which you will get extraordinary views. Have your phone or your camera ready!
In addition, from there you can easily approach the Port d’Alcúdia and Platja de Muro, an extensive beach of white sand and crystalline waters, ideal for swimming and with all the services and leisure activities you need. In summer, both are very frequented by the local population, so they are a good choice if you want to immerse yourself in the most authentic Majorca.
To move around in the most comfortable way and discover the island at your own pace, remember that you can choose a car rental in Majorca, with the best value for money and the experience and professionalism that only ROIG can provide. Remember that we are the only company that has all the passenger transport services in the Balearic Islands!
With this last recommendation, we conclude our cycling routes in Majorca for the whole family. In any case, we would love to help you complete the list or, if you have been lucky enough to do one of these tours, to share your opinion with us. Go ahead and send us your comments!
